INFORMATION PROCESSING

A perspective on cognition and cognitive development in which the human mind is likened to a computer

As the definition states, information processing is a perspective (approach) to the study of cognition and cognitive development in which the mind is likened to a computer. However, rather than focusing on mere input and output, psychologists who adhere to this approach place specific emphasis on the processes of cognitive development. This section focuses on such processes. Specific attention is given to the concepts of information processing as they relate to the study of cognitition. Also featured is information on artificial intelligence (a sub-area of study related to information processing).
