Step 1: From the Technology Exploration Center, open the Fetch 3.0 application from the "Communications" folder on EHServerHD. Enter the requested information into the fields in the dialogue screen. Your User ID will be your 8-character pilot ID and your pilot password. In the "directory" field, type the word "web." Follow the example below:
You will be placing all of your HTML files in your Web folder and it is the only one accessible by a web browser. (Note: To see the other files and folders in your AFS directory, click and hold down on the triangle popdown menu next to "web" and you can then select any other folders or directories within your space.)
Step 3: You should see two buttons from Fetch, "Put File" and "Get File." If you are uploading files, click once on "Put File" and the Mac will ask you to browse until you see the file that you want to upload. Select the file and click on the "Open" button or you can double-click on the file. Fetch will then allow you to select the "Format" for uploading the file (see illustration below). The default setting for Fetch is "Text" and you will want to select "Raw Data" from the pop-down menu instead. *Important Note* Always upload your HTML, gif, jpeg and other web files in Raw Data format.
Now your HomePage should be accessible at:
http://pilot.msu.edu/~Your Pilot ID
Step 4: Open the "Netscape" web browser and connect to your HomePage address to see if you have successfully added your files.
*A NOTE ON EDITING EXISTING FILES*
If you are updating files that are already in your web folder, you will first want to remove the older versions of those files. You can remove files by selecting "Delete directory or file" from the "Remote" menu in Fetch. Once you have deleted, just put the newer version back into your web folder using "Put File"
