The MSU Environmental Stewardship/Be Spartan Green initiative to reduce energy use, reduce waste, increase reuse and recycling, and promote future environmental initiatives began in 2005 under the umbrella of President Simon's strategic vision Boldness by Design. Technical teams will be studying Energy, Material Waste, Behavior, Cost & Returns and Communication, with the goal of making systemic changes in the way that we understand and address environmental stewardship.

 

Erickson Hall Energy Audit, Summer '08:

Part of the Boldness by Design vision is to develop a continuous monitoring system so that real time energy use data can be collected for individual campus buildings. The data can then be analyzed as buildings are upgraded to increase their energy efficiency, and to quantify changes, if any, in energy consumption patterns resulting from education and information provided to the buildings' occupants. A synopsis of an energy survey conducted during the summer of 2007 in 12 campus buildings can be found on the Boldness by Design site.
