For MA Students
Degree candidates and their guests are to gather in the Erickson Hall lobby on Friday, December 11, 2009 at 3:30 PM for a reception. At 4:30 PM candidates will enter the Kiva and sit in the lower bowl of the Kiva. Guests will be seated in the surrounding area of the Kiva. Candidates should wear academic cap and gown. Each candidate should prepare an information card (available upon arrival or printable from attachment) specifying name (with pronunciation if necessary), degree awarded, current job or next professional or academic position. This information will be read as you are introduced. Each candidate will be called to the stage to be introduced and to receive congratulations from the Dean of the College of Education and the chairperson of the appropriate department.
Candidates are encouraged to attend the all-university graduate ceremony at which the degrees will be formally conferred. The all-university ceremony takes place in Breslin and masters candidates are to be in the designated seating area for the College of Education no later than 6:00 PM. Detailed information can be found at the university's commencement web site.
You do not need to RSVP to the MA invitation, but we hope you will attend our College ceremony.
For PhD Students
Ph.D./Ed.S. degree candidates and their guests are to gather in the Erickson Hall lobby on Friday, December 11, 2009 at 3:30 PM for a reception. At 4:30 PM candidates will enter the Kiva and sit in the lower bowl of the Kiva and should sit with their academic advisor or faculty member who will participate in the hooding ceremony. Candidates should wear academic cap and gown and should carry their academic hood over their left arm. Guests will be seated in the surrounding area of the Kiva. Each candidate will be called to the stage to be introduced and to be hooded by his or her advisor and department chairperson.
Candidates are encouraged to attend the all-university graduate ceremony at which the degrees will be formally conferred. The all- university ceremony takes place in Breslin and doctoral and educational specialist candidates are to line up in the auxiliary gym with their advisor or faculty member who is participating in the hooding ceremony by 6:00 PM. Detailed information can be found at the university's commencement web site.
PhD candidates will need to RSVP to attend our College ceremony. We need to know if you plan to attend the College Ceremony so your name can be included in the script and so we can assure that you have someone present to hood you. Please check with your advisor and let us know who will hood you. We also need to know what your plans are for next year, e.g., academic or professional position.
