MSU hosts major job fair for educators
4-20-09

School districts with job openings from all across the country will converge at Michigan State University on Friday, April 24 during the annual Teacher & Administrator Recruitment Fair.

More than 1,100 educators, both new and experienced, are expected to attend and explore thousands of available employment opportunities that are often hard to find in today’s economy.

The event, which also gives employers a premier opportunity to recruit graduates of the MSU College of Education's highly-reputed teacher preparation programs, will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Breslin Center.

Recruiters from Michigan and many other states such as Maryland, Arizona, Colorado, Illinois and Texas will be looking for a wide variety of general and more specialized positions. This includes media specialists, school nurses, speech pathologists and more. Some school systems, especially those that must hire a large number of teachers every year, will offer interviews and hiring decisions on the spot.

“This fair shows talented educators that they can find exciting career prospects, even while public schools in Michigan have been limited in their hiring,” said Cassandra Book, associate dean of the College of Education. “For MSU, it also continues to demonstrate that our graduates, who already have extensive classroom experience, attract the interest of recruiters nationwide.”

MSU students, including those completing their fifth-year teaching internships, alumni and all other interested teachers and school administrators are encouraged to attend the recruitment fair, which is the last of five being hosted this week by a consortium of Michigan universities.

Pre-registration is not required. The fair is free for MSU students and teaching interns (bring your student ID); $10 for MSU alumni; and $20 for the general public.

MSU students and MSU Alumni Association members can also view and apply for education jobs throughout the year – especially during the peak summer season – by signing up for the online job board, MySpartanCareer.com.
