Have you thought about a career in Teaching?

Why Choose Teaching?
Teaching is a great job. You can make a difference in the lives of your students, inspire young people to do great things, and keep learning and challenging yourself year after year. Teachers can change the world. The profession needs you. The students need you. And the College of Education wants to help you succeed.

1. We're headed for a teacher shortage and the country will need many new teachers. The demand is high for minority teachers and those from diverse backgrounds who understand and are sensitive to an increasingly diverse student body.

2. Teaching gives you entry to careers beyond the classroom. With some years of teaching experience you can become a principal or an administrator in a school district. Teaching experience also is excellent background for pursuing college and university teaching, government service, and business and industry training.

3. The pay is good and getting better. The average starting salary for working a 10-month school year is $25,000. With advanced degrees and experience, teachers can make upwards of $60,000 for 10 months. In addition, teachers have excellent health and retirement benefits, and can often arrange flexible schedules.

Why Choose MSU for teacher preparation?
MSU's College of Education is one of the leading colleges in the nation for pursuing a career in education and serves as a model for other programs of professional education. For the tenth consecutive year, the 2005 U.S. News and World Report ranking of 189 graduate schools of education rated our elementary and secondary education programs as the best in the nation.

1. Our college's reputation is based on our exceptional faculty, integration of current research into our classes, unique program, and talented students. We have developed an innovative and rigorous program that is nationally recognized as model for teacher preparation. Strong academic majors, early field experiences in diverse K-12 classrooms, and a full-year internship with 12 credits at the graduate level make this program outstanding.

2. Students may choose from more than 20 majors and nearly 30 minor fields.

4. We have strong working relationships with schools and school districts.

5. Our graduates are granted Michigan teaching certificates that are accepted in most states and by many schools overseas.

6. Recruiters from school districts throughout Michigan and the nation seek our graduates.
