Semesters Offered: Fall/Spring 

Duties: Teaching duties of CEP 460, Communication Skill Training for the Helping Professional, an undergraduate course on communication and listening skills.  Interpersonal communication focusing on dynamics of listening process, interpersonal style, and barriers to communication. Emphasis on the mastery of micro skills.   Includes all phases of course instruction, e.g. course design, lecture, grading.  This course is a service course open to university students.  It is not open to freshman and sophomores.

Supervising Faculty: Michael Leahy

Desired Qualifications: 
1. Masters degree in counseling or a related field; prior teaching experience relevant to the course’s content. 
2. Experience in group lecture
3. Experience leading group exercise.   

Orientation and Training: Graduate assistants are required to attend orientation prior to the start of fall semester. Staff development activities include participation in in-service workshops as well as policy staff meetings throughout the academic year.

Mentoring and Monitoring: Graduate assistants are observed and evaluated at least once each semester.  Written and verbal feedback is provided after each observation.  Copies of the written evaluation, course materials, and SIRS are kept in the graduate assistant’s file.
