Teaching Position: KIN 411 Laboratory Experiences in Exercise Physiology

Semesters Offered: Fall/Spring/Summer 

Duties: Teaching duties of KIN 411, “Laboratory Experiences in Exercise Physiology”.  This course is required for all KIN majors in the Exercise Science emphasis.  The focus of this course is laboratory techniques for testing and evaluating individuals for aerobic fitness, muscular strength and endurance, body composition and other physiological responses to exercise.  Exercise program development for personal health and fitness is also emphasized.  Teaching assistants selected for this course will receive initial and ongoing staff development under guidance of faculty members to assist in teaching this course.  Administrative duties include giving and grading homework, lab reports, and quizzes.   

Supervising Faculty: Dr. Jim Pivarnik

Desired Qualifications: (1) Experience as intern in KIN 411 (2) in depth knowledge of exercise physiology laboratory content.  (3) Experience in graduate level course of the same focus.

Orientation and Training: Graduate assistants are required to attend orientation prior to the start of fall semester that includes participation in the All-University TA program.  Staff development activities include participation in in-service workshops as well as policy staff meetings throughout the academic year.

Mentoring and Monitoring: Graduate assistants are observed and evaluated at least once each semester.  Written and verbal feedback is provided after each observation.  Copies of the written evaluation, course materials, and SIRS are kept in the graduate assistant’s file.
