The Department of Kinesiology at Michigan State University is seeking a behavioral scientist with expertise in the area of physical activity, broadly defined to include exercise, physical activity, and sport, with a special emphasis on youth for a tenure-track assistant or associate professor position. Research encompassing the behavioral determinants of physical activity as well as the outcomes of physical activity on behavioral health and well-being of children and youth would be particularly important. The position is a 9-month appointment with the possibility of Summer school teaching. Salary is negotiable and commensurate with qualifications. Effective date of appointment will be August, 2007.
Qualifications : Candidates must have an earned doctoral degree in kinesiology or related field. The successful candidate must (a) show evidence of scholarly expertise in physical activity behavior, (b) have research that has substantial potential for acquiring external funding, and (c) demonstrate proficiency in college teaching. Candidates at the associate professor level must have a record of federally funded grants.
Duties :
- Develop and maintain a vigorous scholarly research program that will facilitate acquisition of external funding and enhance graduate student recruitment.
- Seek and obtain external funding.
- Possible teaching areas may include undergraduate and graduate classes in exercise psychology, sport psychology, sport sociology, physical growth and motor behavior, research methods, and measurement in kinesiology.
- Recruit, advise, and mentor graduate students at the masters and doctoral levels.
- Perform service to the department, college, university, and the profession.
