5th Year Internship
Deaf Education Internship
Michigan State University provides undergraduate Deaf Education teacher candiadates with a full fifth-year of internship. All Deaf Education undergraduates will graduate with a Bachelor's Degree in Special Education-Deaf Education and return to complete their teacher certification in a final fifth year of training. Candidates will complete a semester of general education internship as well as a semester of Deaf Education internship. For the general education internship placement, every effort is made to place interns in classrooms having a mainstreamed deaf or hard-of-hearing student(s). Deaf Education internship placements include self-contained classrooms and teacher/consultant (itinerant) placements. Interns are placed with exemplary collaborative teachers around the state and the nation. While completing the two semesters of internship, teacher candidates are preparing for the Deaf Education MTTC (MI Test for Teacher Certification).
