Tools of the Month
Launch Into Teaching welcomes you to Tools of the Month! We look forward to helping you develop your mentoring/coaching practice.
Last month, we provided you with tools that coaches and teachers can use in establishing a classroom climate in which students have the opportunity to talk about their learning with their peers. Hopefully, norms and procedures for classroom discussions have been established, modeled, and practiced... and the classroom is alive with students talking about their thinking with one another! Using the Teacher Press Sentence Starters will enable teachers to be successful in pressing their students for more information during discussions. What we find out about student understanding helps inform our teaching. This month,Launch into Teaching help coaches and teachers engage students further in talk by offering strategies that can be immediately implemented in the classroom: "Establishing a Culture of Talk: Engaging Students in Talk"
Once students are comfortable with reciprocal learning, coaches and teachers can really focus in on building content knowledge. "Establishing a Culture of Talk: Building Content Knowledge will help with this.
