WELCOME

The Center for Higher and Adult Education jointly emphasizes the importance of policy and international work in postsecondary education for the 21st century. We are indebted to the Dr. Mildred B. Erickson Distinguished Chair in Higher, Adult and Lifelong Education Endowment, established in 2003 by her son, Dr. Bruce Erickson, for providing us with start-up funds for this endeavor. Before retiring as Assistant Dean for Lifelong Education in 1981, Mildred Erickson spent her career helping non-traditional students, especially women, get back into college and to attain the self-respect and credibility that comes with an education. We are pleased to honor her legacy with our Center, research and commitment to enhancing lives through higher education.

IMPORTANT NEWS:

Student internship opportunities: Internship monies are available on a "first come, first serve" basis.  If you are interested in participating in a higher educational policy experience beyond the normal scope of your learning activities as a HALE graduate student, please consider submitting an internship application via the center this autumn.  We strongly encourage any HALE student who has in interest in domestic or international policy to explore potential experiential learning opportunities and submit a funding application.  For more information, please view the Intern Program page.  To view examples of funded Center internship applications, please click here and here.

2009 Student Interns:The Center is excited to have supported internships for two HALE doctoral and one maters student this past summer. 3rd year student Chris Glass and 2nd year student Leah Beasley both worked in Washington D.C. interning with the Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) and the Pell Institute respectively. HALE Masters student Jiajun Liu worked with Qingdao University in China on policy changes in rapidly changing cultures.
