CENTER FELLOW PROGRAM

Former fellows: Prof. Zhou Zuoyu (Beijing Normal University).  Download a .pdf file of Prof. Zhou's presentation from the Center's inaugural event here.

Purpose and Goal
The Center Fellow Program intends to bring accomplished scholars and administrators in higher education, both domestic and international, to the MSU campus for a period of time to engage in scholarly activities and academic exchange. The Program provides a basis for establishing long-lasting productive relationships between the members of the HALE community and the fellows. The Program may also lead to a constructive partnership between the Center and the fellow’s home institution. The Program intends to provide an intellectual and personally enriching experience for the prospective fellows; it also intends to bring outside perspectives to HALE faculty and students.

Administration
The Center Fellow Program is managed through the Center for Higher and Adult Education. The Center will help a fellow identify one faculty member in the HALE program as a host, provide office space, make arrangements for academic exchange and scholarly activities, and help with housing arrangements. Along with the Office of International Students and Scholars (ISSO) and the Office of International Studies in the College of Education, the Center will help with documents relating to international academic exchange. ISSO will produce visa documents, provide Orientation program, help with health insurance, and assist in attaining legal status for new fellows.

Resources
The Center will provide office space, MSU library access and other facilities necessary for conducting research and other scholarly activities. The Center may cover travel, office maintenance, and other expenses directly related to the academic exchange. Although international fellows often will seek financial support from their home institutions, government or other resources for their stay at MSU, the Center may provide supplementary financial support.

Duration
The duration of the Fellowship appointment is not fixed. It can range from a few weeks up to two years. The length of the Fellowship and its timing can be negotiated by both the Center and the fellow, and decided on an individual basis.

Application Procedures

In most cases the Center will identify possible fellows and initiate the process. In a few cases the Center may accept individuals who express an interest in working with the Center and the HALE program. Those individuals should contact the Center to express their interest, send a resume, and a brief statement of purpose at anytime during the year. Applications will be processed on a continuous basis. Decisions will be made in a reasonable time, based on the match of interests, available resources and the hosting capacity in the Center.

Once an application is accepted, the Center will send out invitation letter. For international fellows, the Center will contact the Office of International Studies in Education, and through that office to send out an invitation and submit an application to the Office of International Students and Scholars for documents that are required for visa application.
