Principal Support

Without administrative support, programs under serve those who need it most. The principal component offers opportunities for collaboration with principals within and across districts through one credit, on line graduate level coursework.

I learned how important it was just to have a conversation with my beginning teachers. And saying “hi” is not a conversation! It’s pulling them in so that they want to speak to you, not just think there is something wrong. I became more purposeful in going to them.

A principal study group is also available to provide extended support to leaders within a district. This enables principals interested in supporting, developing, and assessing new teachers and their mentors through strong and effective instructional leadership practices to collaborate with peers. District wide principal meetings provide additional opportunities to build understanding around induction as well as create a self sustaining model across the district.

Several on-line resources exist for administrators in their role in supporting and fostering beginning teacher development. ASSIST offers guidance to administrators around topics such as: cultivating a school culture that supports induction, the creation of professional learning communities and working with beginning teachers.
