Center Events: Speaker Series
Judith Shulman
November 1-2, 2000
Judith
(Judy) H. Shulman develops materials, research, and resources that improve
teachers' capacity for instruction. As director of the Institute for Case
Development and the National Board Support Network at WestEd, Shulman
conducts professional development and technical assistance that not only
facilitate quality teacher instruction, but enable teachers to learn and
grow from their experience.
Currently, Shulman supports National Board Certification
through the National Board Support Network at WestEd. She directs the only
statewide network in California for candidate support providers — mentors
for teachers in California and Nevada who are candidates for National Board
Certification. Shulman also coordinates a website for participants in the
network; conducts seminars for new support providers; and helps school
districts, county offices, and university campuses on request. She is also
presently developing a casebook on the challenges of mentoring National
Board teachers.
Before joining WestEd, Shulman served as an instructor in
the School of Education at Michigan State University and as an elementary
school teacher. She received a BS in elementary education from Northwestern
University and an MA in education from Michigan State University. To learn
