Endowed Funds

Endowed funds differ from others in that the total amount of the gift is invested. Each year, only a portion of the invested income earned is spent while the remainder adds to principal growth.   In this respect, an endowment is a perpetual gift. Always equated with excellence and long-term strength, endowments are absolutely essential if we are to remain leaders in education, research and outreach.

One of the advantages of creating an endowment is the freedom to choose how your investment will support the university. Once you have chosen an area you would like to support, it makes good sense to assess the impact you would like your gift to have. Endowments inherently bring about a profound impact because of their longevity. The perpetuity of your gift will help the college sustain support in the area of your choosing.

Endowments are an excellent way to honor someone special to you or permanently memorialize a loved one. Once you have created an endowment, your gift becomes part of MSU's heritage and tradition. In fact, loved ones may also choose to support your fund because they know how special it is to you.   Your family and Michigan State University have the opportunity to enjoy a long relationship built around something that you value.

The current minimum amount to establish a named endowed fund at Michigan State University is $30,000. A gift of $30,000 when invested as endowment will support an annual scholarship fund for undergraduate students. The minimum amount necessary to establish any endowed fund at MSU should be negotiated with the university. For more information, contact:
