Ph.D. in Higher, Adult, and Lifelong Education

Application Process

The application deadline for the Fall 2019 Cohort is December 1, 2018.

In order to apply, all applicants must first complete an application with the Michigan State University Graduate School. The Graduate School offers resources and information for completing their application process, and will request an academic and personal statement. Although some of these materials are needed for applicants, they are submitted in a different application. In each field, please enter "Please see my personal statement uploaded on the Graduate Education Applicant Portal."

After the graduate application is submitted, the Graduate School will send an email invitation to upload program-specific application materials through the Graduate Education Application Portal.

All applicants will need their applicant ID number and the password created when they submitted their application to the Michigan State University Graduate School to submit their program-specific documents.

Letters of Reference (3)
Three letters of reference are required for the application. References will be provided a link for uploading their letters.
Transcripts
E-mail or mail to the HALE Ph.D. Admissions Assistant official transcripts from each degree-granting institution attended.
GRE Scores
Supply official scores from Graduate Record Examination (GRE) taken within the last five years (MSU's ETS Institution Code is R1465).

International Applicants

International students seeking admission to the HALE program are required to submit a Graduate Application for Admission and indicate their status as an international student. International students must also be able to provide both proof of financial support and proper proficiency in English.

Transfer Students

Current graduate students who wish to transfer into the HALE program from another Michigan State University graduate program outside the Department of Educational Administration (EAD) must complete a new Graduate Application for Admission including all supplemental materials.
