Specialist (EdS) in Educational Administration
The Educational Specialist program (EdS) enrolls professional educators seeking knowledge, skills and technical capabilities for advanced leadership roles in U.S. and international schools, district offices, state agencies and other organizations. The program pushes leaders to confront systemic, underlying challenges to schools and educational systems and to construct new possibilities. Participants are exposed to what might be possible in their schools, districts, and communities through the study of contemporary ideas, practices and research based knowledge in leadership and in the development of schools and educational systems. Central to the program is the concern for enhancing the life chances of all students through school achievement, for enhancing the capacities of educators and leaders across the system, and for enabling dynamic and effective professional work systems.
The EdS program emphasizes applied learning and inquiry, preparation for specific leadership positions and field-based training and development. Students are supported to connect with emerging trends in their field through strong relationships with mentors and through participation in national and international conferences and study programs.
Attending MSU offers opportunities to study and collaborate with nationally recognized faculty engaged in state, national and international research and development. We are committed to expanding your horizons by connecting you to knowledge and practices emerging from innovative school and district development efforts nationally and internationally. Leading national educators and researchers visit the College regularly and the College’s highly regarded K-12 Outreach Center networks professionals to key educational organizations and developments in Michigan. The College's Policy Center offers you access to influential state and national policy makers. These and other strengths have helped our programs be ranked 8th nationally by U.S. News and World Report.
