American Education Research Association (AERA)

Description: The American Educational Research Association (AERA), founded in 1916, is concerned with improving the educational process by encouraging scholarly inquiry related to education and by promoting the dissemination and practical application of research results. AERA is the most prominent international professional organization with the primary goal of advancing educational research and its practical application. Its 22,000 members are educators; administrators; directors of research; persons working with testing or evaluation in federal, state and local agencies; counselors; evaluators; graduate students; and behavioral scientists. The broad range of disciplines represented by the membership includes education, psychology, statistics, sociology, history, economics, philosophy, anthropology, and political science.

 

American Education Finance Association (AEFA)

Description: The mission of the American Education Finance Association (AEFA) is to integrate in a dynamic way the research, policy, information, and discussion relating to critical issues in education finance. Themes from the 2005 annual meeting include: Higher, Continuing and Adult Education, Comparative issues in education finance, Alternative approaches to school funding, Adequacy, equity, and school accountability, Links between education finance and policy, Resource re-allocation at state, district, and school levels, School choice (e.g., charters, vouchers, public school choice), Bolstering special education, Addressing needs of special populations, Compensation and labor markets for school personnel, Relationship between school reform, outcomes, and resources, Higher education finance and staffing issues, Ways to improve cost-effective use of school resources.

 

International Conference on Civic Education

Description: For a country to flourish and grow, and for a democracy to sustain liberty and justice, the next generation of citizens must acquire the civic skills, abilities and commitments to govern.  This interdisciplinary conference will draw together researchers and practitioners, including:
  • K-12 educators and counselors,
  • University faculty and researchers,
  • State coordinators, policy makers and evaluators,
  • School and University administrators,
  • Staff from youth-serving community based organizations.

This would include work on:

  • service-learning,
  • moral education,
  • character education,
  • democratic education,
  • violence prevention,
  • substance abuse prevention.

 

North American Chapter of the International Group for the Psychology of Mathematics Education (PME~NA)

Description: The major goals of the International Group and the North American Chapter are:

  1. To promote international contacts and the exchange of scientific information in the psychology of mathematics education.
  2. To promote and stimulate interdisciplinary research in the aforesaid area, with the cooperation of psychologists, mathematicians and mathematics teachers.
  3. To further a deeper and better understanding of the psychological aspects of teaching and learning mathematics and the implications thereof.
