Yong Zhao is a University Distinguished
Professor at Michigan State University, where he also serves as the
founding director of the Center for Teaching and Technology as well
as the US-China Center for Research on Educational Excellence. He
holds a BA from Sichuan International Studies University, an A.M
and Ph.D. in Education from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
He joined the faculty at Michigan State University in 1996 after
working at Willamette University, Hamilton College, and Colgate University
as a specialist in technology and language education. He is a fellow
of the International Academy of Education. Zhao ’s research
interests include diffusion of innovations, teacher adoption of technology,
computer-assisted language learning, globalization and education,
and international and comparative education. Zhao has published extensively
in these areas. His articles have appeared in American Educational
Research Journal, Teachers College Record and other international
scholarly journals. He has published seven books in China and the
US. He has developed and managed numerous network-based learning
environments and educational web sites. He received the 2003 Raymond
B. Catell Early Career Award from the American Educational Research
Association for his significant contribution to research in education.
Zhao has extensive international experiences. He has consulted with
government and educational agencies and spoken on educational issues
in many countries including Chile, China, England, Ireland, Singapore,
Thailand, and Vietnam. He is currently leading the Education Research
Group of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) education network
(EDNET). His current work focuses on the impact of globalization
on education and the integration of Eastern and Western educational
practices. Dr. Zhao serves on editorial boards for numerous scholarly
journals, including Educational Researcher, theInternational
Journal of Educational Technology, and the Journal of Language
Learning and Technology.
Melissa White

Melissa White has been a K-12 Media
Specialist for 17 years. For the past 7.5 years, she has been the Supervisor of Media and Technology
at Ingham Intermediate School District. Melissa has also been
an instructor for 5 years in the Educational Technology Certificate
program at Michigan State University. Currently, she is teaching a
CEP 811 course in Birmingham. Melissa was the MACUL Outstanding
Technology Using Educator Runner Up for 2002 and the MAME Program Chair
from 1997 to 2006.
