During this seminar the Fellows will have an opportunity to discuss the status of the Michigan economy, some of the key trends and indicators that are used in making economic projections, and the state's current economic forecast.

Jay Wortley is the Senior Economist for the Michigan Senate Fiscal Agency. His responsibilities include preparing economic forecasts for the U.S. and Michigan economies, estimating future State Government revenues, estimating the potential fiscal impact of proposed tax legislation, and evaluating tax policy issues. Prior to joining the Senate Fiscal Agency in 1991,  Jay spent six years in Washington, D.C., where he worked for the National Association of State Budget Officers and Price Waterhouse. Prior to going to Washington, D.C., in 1985, Jay spent 12 years as an economist with Michigan's Department of Management and Budget in the Office of Revenue and Tax Analysis. Jay received B.A. and M.A. degrees in Economics from Michigan State University.
