Online Application for Admission to the Teacher Preparation Program
For All Applicants

If you have not registered, paid for, and/or received your passing scores for the required Michigan Test for Teacher Certification (MTTC) Basic Skills test (reading, writing, and mathematics), you SHOULD NOT proceed with this application. You cannot be admitted to the Teacher Preparation Program unless Michigan State University has received official notification of your passing scores for the MTTC Basic Skillls test.

The Michigan Test for Teacher Certification (MTTC) requires a separate registration and a fee payment to National Evaluation Systems (NES). The MTTC registration form may be accessed online at http://www.mttc.nesinc.com. The MTTC test is only administered four times per year in January, April, July, and October and regular registration deadlines are approximately six weeks prior to the test dates. You must plan ahead for these exams.

All applicants must complete a proctored, timed essay which requires payment of a $20.00 essay scoring fee and reservation for a specific essay-writing date, time, and location on MSU's campus.

Undergraduates

The undergraduate application is for enrolled MSU undergraduates who have reached sophomore status by August 31, 2008, and wish to be considered for admission to the Teacher Education Program for Fall Semester 2009.

The application will be available on September 3, 2008, and must be completed by October 29, 2008.

If you completed the online application for admission earlier this academic year, and you must change the date of your SCHEDULED essay writing session, please login below. You may attempt to change to another open essay writing session if your scheduled writing session is more than 48 hours away.

Please note: In addition to completing this electronic application, you must complete the other application requirements noted on the college web site. If you have not yet passed the MTTC Basic Skills Examination, it must be taken by October 18, 2008, to be considered for Fall 2009 admission. The following documents must be turned in as ONE packet to 134 Erickson by 5 p.m. on Friday, October 29, 2008.

Post-Baccalaureate (post-BA) Applicants

The post-BA application is for individuals who have completed a bachelor's or higher degree and who have completed the majority of the disciplinary subject course work (Teacher Education major and/or minors) required for teacher preparation at the elementary or secondary level.

Applications for admission from post-BA students are accepted on a rolling admission basis. Completed applications and passing scores for the MTTC Basic Skills Test must be received in our office eight weeks prior to the start of the desired semester of admission. To be clear, the online application for College of Education admission and proctored essay must be completed AND all required MTTC test results and hard copy materials must be received (including copies of transcripts from all colleges and universities attended, personal information page, and conviction disclosure form) eight weeks prior to the beginning of the semester you wish to start the program. Admission decisions will be communicated approximately four weeks prior to the start of the admission semester. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

The application deadline is November 1 if you are applying for admisssion for Spring Semester 2009.

The application deadline is March 15 if you are applying for admission for Summer Semester 2009.

The application deadline is May 15 if you are applying for admission for Fall Semester 2009.

To complete a post-BA application:

  1. You must complete the post-BA online application, including the timed, proctored essay.
  2. You must submit a completed hardcopy of the Conviction Disclosure Form, Personal Information Page, and photocopies of all transcripts from any/all colleges/universities attended to 134 Erickson Hall, East Lansing, Michigan, 48824. An official transcript must be sent from the degree-granting institution(s) to the MSU Office of Admissions and Scholarships, Room 250 Hannah Administration Building, East Lansing, Michigan, 48824.
  3. You must have official MTTC test results sent to MSU. Please see http://www.mttc.nesinc.com for more registration, test dates, and score reporting information.

The $50.00 application fee (using credit card, debit or checking account) may be paid at http://ed-web2.educ.msu.edu/webcredit/saffairs1.

Transfer Students

The transfer application is ONLY for students who have applied to Michigan State University as first-time transfer students intending to complete their first bachelor's degree at MSU. You must have received a special supplemental application and instructions regarding direct admission to the College of Education from the Michigan State University Admissions Office in order to apply here.

The application deadline is November 15 if you are applying for admisssion for Spring Semester 2009.

The application deadline is March 15 if you are applying for admission for Summer Semester 2009.

The application deadline is May 15 if you are applying for admission for Fall Semester 2009.

To complete your transfer application:

  1. You must complete the College of Education transfer online application, including the timed, proctored essay.
  2.
