The remembrances of my first fall on the banks of the Red Cedar are as vivid as the fall colors portrayed on that beautiful Michigan autumn day. MSU and autumn are as natural together as green and white. As president of the College of Education Alumni Board it is a privilege to serve you and share the wonderful accomplishments and activities surrounding the college in this edition of the New Educator.

First, I want to thank everyone who attended our annual Alumni Homecoming Tent Party. With another full house (or tent in this case), you proved once again our College of Education alumni are the best!

The board is geared up for another full year of activities. I would like to make you aware of our scholarship program for high school seniors and the college’s Distinguished Alumni Awards. You can serve the college by nominating deserving high school seniors you know who are interested in teaching and MSU—or, those seniors who should be interested in MSU!

The second call for nominations is for one of our three distinguished alumni awards; k–12 Teacher, k–12 Administrator and Distinguished Alumni. The criteria for nominating a fellow educator for one of the three awards is available on the COE Web site. What better symbol of professional respect than to nominate a fellow colleague and MSU graduate for one of these prestigious awards. Please go to the COE Web site to check out the criteria and how to nominate your favorite College of Education alumni.

If you have not been on campus or visited Erickson Hall recently, you must do so. The new high-tech lobby, Sparty Coffee Shop, patio and building addition symbolize the accomplishments and growth of our college. From the Confucius Institute to the Broad Partnership in Detroit, your College of Education is literally on the educational frontier around the globe.
