Cindy Bjorkquist-Beadling (MS 93) has been appointed executive director of the Community Health Foundation for Foote Hospital in Jackson, Michigan.

Dave Chapin (PhD 91) has been appointed superintendent of the Bullock Creek School District in Michigan. Chapin had been the district’s assistant superintendent.

Trish Finnerty (MA 98), Tom Jury (MA 86), and Jill Kingdon (MA 80) received Commitment to Excellence awards by the Okemos Foundation. Finnerty teaches third grade at Central Elementary School, Jury is an art teacher at Chippewa Middle School, and Kingdon is a physical education teacher at Hiawatha Elementary School.

Peter Gorman (BA 87) has been appointed superintendent of the Tustin (California) Unified School District. Gorman had been area superintendent and chief information officer at the Orange County Public Schools in Orlando, Florida.

Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, Texas, honored Nathan A. Ivey (PhD 63) with its Distinguished Alumni of the Year award. Now retired, Ivey served as president of Rangely (Colorado) College, Southwestern Michigan College, John A. Logan College (Illinois), and Thornton Community College (Illinois).

Leapetswe Malete (PhD 00) has accepted a position as a research fellow at the University of the West Indies.

Raeanne Renner (BA 75) received a Teacher of the Year award sponsored by Walmart. Renner teaches a multi-age classroom of 6-, 7- and 8-year-olds at Girard Elementary School in Coldwater, Michigan. The award is given by Walmart each year in communities where the retailer is located.

Joanne Saoud (MA 78) was featured in “Teacher Profile” in the Detroit News. Saoud has been a drama and speech instructor at Howell High School for more than 25 years.

Penny S. Snyder (MA 87), who is principal of Jonesville (Michigan) Middle School, was recognized for her outstanding performance in achieving National Board for Professional Standards certification with the National Board Certified Teacher Award.

Steve Walk (PhD 94) is now serving on the editorial board of Sociology of Sports Journal. Walk is an associate professor of kinesiology at California State University, Fullerton.

Rodney Wilson (PhD 00) has accepted a position as a research analyst for the Michigan Department of Transportation.
