| MSU is home to a large and lively group of science education faculty and graduate students who work in three departments across two colleges. The Department of Teacher Education offers programs at the Master's , Educational Specialist, and Doctoral levels. Ph.D. candidates in Educational Psychology can also pursue interests in science learning. The Division of Science and Mathematics Education in the College of Natural Science offers master's degree programs focusing on science content learning for elementary and secondary teachers. Faculty and graduate students from all of these programs come together every fall for an informal seminar focusing on current issues in science education.
Doctoral students in science education participate in an intellectual and social community that includes faculty, graduate students, and teachers in elementary and secondary schools, all committed to understanding and improving science teaching and learning. The program offers opportunities for coursework that provides a broad understanding of educational policy and practice as well as specialized knowledge of science education. Graduate assistantships enable students to participate in MSU's award-winning teacher education program. Other assistantships provide opportunities to participate in research, curriculum development, and systemic reform projects that are professionally rewarding and intellectually stimulating.
