J. Franklin Hyde Scholarship
The award is intended to encourage students who have demonstrated the capacity and motivation to achieve educational and professional goals, and the initiative to become outstanding teachers of chemistry.  This scholarship is awarded to a rising junior in chemistry education.  Students may not apply for this scholarship; it is awarded annually by a committee's selection.

About Franklin Hyde
The J. Franklin Hyde Scholarship in Science Education has been awarded annually since 1992 to outstanding students who plan to teach science at the secondary level.

The scholarship was established by Dow Corning, the Dow Corning Foundation, and participating employees and retirees of the company as a tribute to Hyde, who is a former Dow senior research scientist.

Hyde's 40-year career was marked by pioneering achievements in silicone research and development. He credits his entry into the science field in part to the inspiration and encouragement of an exceptional science teacher.

The Hyde Scholarship recipient is selected at the end of his or her sophomore year and receives support through the junior, senior, and internship years. Dow Corning also provides an opportunity for the student to work at Dow Corning during the summer before the senior year.
