Many sport leaders use buzzwords like communication, leadership, or skill development. Our expert presenters dig into these buzzwords and show you some tried-and-true techniques for turning them into assets for your program.
The theme of the 2018 Summer Coaches’ School is Developing Leadership at All Levels – from developing a coherent leadership philosophy as a coach, to developing strategies for building the leadership capacity of your players.
Topics will also address the new challenges coaches face working with Generation Z athletes (born after 1996), will provide principles of skill acquisition, challenge coaches’ notions of the best way to teach and refine athletic skill, and will close by teaching communication and goal-setting strategies.
Presentations will include a mix of engaging lectures, workshop activities, skill practice, and group conversation.
The conference will be held at the Brody Center, easily accessible from the Kellogg Center parking ramp on the MSU campus. Lunch will be included both days. The conference is hosted and organized by the Institute for the Study of Youth Sports, in conjunction with the MSU Department of Kinesiology and its Sport Coaching and Leadership graduate programs.
We have also partnered with the Michigan High School Athletic Association to make the Summer Coaches’ School part of their Coach Advancement Program. Participants coaching for MHSAA programs can cross-register for CAP 7 and CAP 8, which also count for 12 SCECH credits.
