John (Jack) Schwille, Project Co-Director - Jack is a professor of teacher education and assistant dean for international studies in education. His specialization is in comparative education and the sociology of education, with emphasis on comparative understanding of teaching and learning as these are influenced by their institutional and organizational contexts. His experience includes qualitative as well as quantitative research in a variety of international and domestic settings. In recent years, his geographic focus has been on international development in Africa. Since 1972 he has been involved in large-scale international survey and assessment research with the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA) and one of the principal researchers (2002-2009) for the first such study to examine the institutions, processes and outcomes of teacher preparation and induction. Areas of expertise include: Africa, comparative assessment, comparative education, international-general, educational general and reform policy, and educational sociology.
