Description: "Teaching Hispanic Cultures of the Americas" is a one-week, intensiveinstitute for twenty-five K-12 teachers and MSU interns aimed at broadening and deepening knowledge of and resources for teaching about cultures of the Americas. Sessions will focus on issues of ethnicity and class, language, religion, the arts, and gender in Spanish-speaking countries in Latin America and led by faculty from the Department of Spanish and Portuguese
and Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies. In particular, this institute will focus on "reading" or critically examining how Latin America and Latin American-ness is represented in textbooks and curricular resources.

Teams or groups of educators from the same district are encouraged to participate (in particular, Spanish, social studies, world history and ESL teachers). 2 SBCEU credits are available.
