Description
This one-week, intensive summer institute aims to address current approaches to the teaching of Spanish as a second language for middle and high school students. This institute will focus on the cultural and functional aspects of learning Spanish through an exploration of the theme Ethnicity in Latin America . Sessions will include presentations and discussions led by MSU faculty, K-12 resources and teaching ideas, and opportunities to network with MSU faculty and other teachers. Teams or groups of educators from the same district are encouraged to participate. SB-CEU credits are available.
Objectives
The focus of this institute is on providing Michigan Spanish teachers with pragmatic opportunities and experiences with the Spanish language. This institute is designed to help participants:
1) Enhance their Spanish speaking, reading and writing skills;
2) Learn about resources for teaching Spanish as a second language;
3) Deepen their knowledge about issues of ethnicity and indigenous peoples in Latin America.
Session Structure/Format
- Morning presentation
- Small group activity
- Lunch (12:15-1:00 pm.)

- Small group and curriculum developmeny

Participant's Commitments
- Attend all 5-day sessions of the summer institute
- Complete a brief questionnaire
- Complete one module (individual or group) on a theme/region (more information on the first day) |
