Lundeberg Appointed Department Chair
Widely regarded scholar and administrator Mary
Lundeberg became professor and chairperson of the Department of Teacher
Education at Michigan State University in August. Lundeberg had been a professor at the University of Wisconsin–River Falls since 1989, and served as chairperson of the Department of Teacher Education there from 1992 to 1995. She has a Ph.D. in educational psychology from the University of Minnesota, a master’s degree in reading education from the University of Wisconsin at LaCrosse, and a bachelor's degree in English from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The author of 45 articles and book chapters and three books, Lundeberg has extensive research experience in learning and cognition with a particular focus on what and how students learn from technology projects. She has been the principal investigator or co-principal investigator on grants totaling more than $2.2 million. She is currently working on a National Science Foundation-funded project involving development of case-based learning tools for the biology curriculum. |
“The Department of Teacher Education at msu is an exciting and collaborative community with outstanding faculty who care deeply about teacher education and partnerships with schools,” Lundeberg said. “The university has a nationally recognized tradition of innovation in leading the country in new directions. I am honored to join the faculty. “This is a difficult and critical period in teacher education given the state budget crises and lack of understanding regarding the complexity and mission of teacher education programs. I think msu is well positioned to make a difference in teacher education on a national level, given its faculty, the strong reputation of its teacher education program, and the focus on preparing teachers to foster deep understanding of subject matter.” | Back to Contents | Our Faculty: 1, 2, 3, 4 | |
