50 Educators Receive the Crystal Apple on College's 50th Anniversary

As a fitting tribute to the college’s half-century of research, teaching and service, 50 educators from throughout the country were honored with Crystal Apple Awards at a gala at the Kellogg Center in November.

The seventh annual awards ceremony featured a keynote speech by former faculty member Lee Shulman, who is president of the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. More than 500 people attended the gala event that celebrated the college’s rich history and acknowledged the contributions of the 50 educators.

The diverse group of educators included professors, K-12 teachers and administrators, and business leaders. As part of the 50th celebration, each of the college’s four departments nominated a recipient for the award.

The Crystal Apple Awards were inaugurated in 1995 as a way to honor educators personally selected by donors as being representative of excellence and commitment. Gifts in honor of the educators are designated for the Dean’s Excellence Fund of the College of Education, which provides scholarship assistance to worthy students.
